What we do
Groundworks, edging, drainage and the finished surface all come from us, so there’s nobody to blame when something isn’t right — and no waiting on another trade halfway through your job.
The classic Leeds driveway. Herringbone, stretcher bond or basketweave, with a contrasting border and a solid kerb line.
Indian sandstone, porcelain and concrete flags, laid on a full mortar bed with the falls set away from the house.
A smooth, seamless, permeable finish over a solid base. No weeds pushing through joints, no blocks working loose.
Hard-wearing and quick to lay — a sensible choice for long drives, shared accesses and larger areas.
Sunken sections, spreading edges and weed-filled joints lifted, the base put right and the blocks relaid.
Excavation, muck away, sub-base, channel drains and soakaways — the parts of the job nobody sees and everybody feels.
How it’s built
Anyone can lay a nice pattern. A driveway that stays flat comes down to depth, compaction and drainage — so that’s where our time goes.
Excavated to a depth that suits the ground and the traffic, with the spoil taken away rather than spread round the garden.
MOT Type 1 sub-base laid and whacked in layers, not tipped in one go and hoped for. This is what stops the ruts.
Falls set away from the house, with permeable build-ups, channel drains or a soakaway depending on your site.
Haunched edging restrains the whole surface. Skip it and the blocks spread and the pattern opens up.

Working with us
Tell us the postcode, roughly how big the area is and what you’re after. Two minutes on the phone tells us most of what we need.
We look at levels, access, drainage and what’s under the existing surface, and talk through blocks, patterns and edging.
A clear price with the build-up spelled out — depth, sub-base, drainage, materials and how many days we’ll be on site.
Waste away, blocks kiln-dried sanded, edges dressed and the site left swept. You get your parking back on a surface that’s finished.
Why PrimeStone
If relaying will do, we’ll say so rather than sell you a full replacement. If the base has gone, we’ll say that too.
You get the price and what’s included before anyone lifts a spade — no mid-job surprises about extra depth or muck away.
Excavation, drainage, edging and surfacing all in house, so the work runs back-to-back instead of stopping and starting.
We’re round the corner, not two counties away. If something needs looking at after we’ve finished, we can call in.
Waste taken away as we go, materials kept off the neighbours’ frontage and the place swept before we leave.
From a single front drive to car parks, access roads and shared courtyards for landlords and businesses.
Where we work
We’re Leeds based and work throughout the city and the surrounding towns and villages. If your postcode isn’t listed, ring us — we may still cover you.
Questions
The questions we get asked most about driveways and paving in Leeds.
It depends on the size of the area, how much excavation and disposal is involved, the blocks you choose and whether drainage work is needed. Rather than quote a misleading ‘from’ price, we come out, measure up and give you a written price for your driveway.
Most domestic driveways are a few days’ work — longer if there’s a large area, heavy groundworks or a lot of muck away. We’ll tell you the expected number of days when we quote, and let you know how much of that time your parking will be out of use.
Usually not. In England, permitted development normally covers a new front driveway if you use a permeable surface, or if surface water is directed to a lawn or border rather than into the road drain. If more than five square metres of impermeable surface drains straight onto the highway, you may need planning permission — we’ll design the drainage so it doesn’t come to that.
Block paving is laid as individual blocks on a compacted sub-base and sand, so single blocks can be lifted and replaced later and you can run borders, patterns and contrasting edges. Resin bound is a smooth, seamless, permeable finish poured over a solid base — no weeds through joints, no sinking blocks, but repairs are patched rather than lifted. We fit both and will tell you honestly which suits your property.
Yes. Excavating the existing surface, digging out to the right depth and taking the waste away is part of the job. Skimping on that stage is the single biggest cause of driveways sinking a couple of years down the line.
We do — Indian sandstone, porcelain, natural stone and concrete flags, plus steps, edging, sleepers and paths. Plenty of our jobs are a driveway at the front and a patio round the back, done in one visit.
Often, yes. Sunken sections, spreading edges, weeds through the joints and failed pointing can usually be lifted, the base corrected and the blocks relaid — a lot cheaper than a full replacement. If the base underneath has gone, we’ll tell you straight that relaying won’t hold.
That’s designed in from the start. Falls are set away from the house, and depending on the site we’ll use permeable blocks, a channel drain across the threshold, or a soakaway. Standing water and water running towards a doorway are signs of a driveway that was never set out correctly.
Ask us about the guarantee that applies to your job and we’ll confirm it in writing with your quote, so you’ve got it in black and white before anyone starts work.
